Retreat! 2011

Pilrig St. Paul’s Church Hall

Leith

Here’s a few shots from this year’s fantastic Retreat! festival, laid on for us again by Tracer Trails. I was covering the afternoon shifts so caught photos of the mysterious Burger, No Burger; along with a great electronica set from FOUND, the first chance for me to see Fur Hood who were brilliant, and an all-star set from the Rob St John experience. Then on Sunday I caught a bit of eagleowl before battery problems scuppered any photoing for the rest of the day. So all I could do was sit back, get a bit drunk and enjoy the show!

The Ides Of Toad

Matthew Toad put on what I believe was the second of his new Ides Of Toad nights at the Wee Red not so long back. The night featured a stellar line-up of toadpals as you might expect, including travelling troubadour 30lbs Of Bone, local troubadour Ziggy Campbell, a complete full band set from the Rob St. John experience and a special guest appearance form our Portland, Oregon pals Loch Lomond. It was a great night for catching up with friends and listening to some captivating tunes. It’s safe to assume that one or two ales were quaffed, too. A definite win for the Toad, I feel.

Charity Baw

17 07 2010

Featuring King Creosote, Gummi Bako, Ballboy, FOUND, Over The Wall and Panda Su

Roxy Art House, Edinburgh

I was thinking it didn’t seem a year since the last annual Roxy Charity Baw, and of course it isn’t. It’s about eight months. Anyway, horological semantics such as that didn’t prevent us having a ball, indeed a baw, at the hands of King Creosote, Gummi Bako, Ballboy, FOUND, Over The Wall and Panda Su.

Limbo hit the road to pitch a tent at Knockengorroch 2010, and invited some of the luminaries from their regular line-ups along. Withered Hand, Meursault, FOUND and Over The Wall all made the trip. Details remain sketchy about who made it home.

Promotional Photos

The lads from FOUND generously invited me to take some new promo photos for the band which, while obviously being good fun, can sometimes be a little bit awkward and stilted in terms of atmosphere. We found that getting drunk really helped us get around that problem.

Edinburgh Music Library

The Link exhibition finale

The Link exhibition was a fascinating display, held in Edinburgh Music Library up on George IV Bridge, that linked music and visual art, and featured work from many prominent local artists in both fields. It culminated in an auction for much of the art on display, accompanied by a live performance from Player Piano and Found, members of which had contributed work to the exhibition. It turned out to be a very successful evening, raising £2,000 for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland. Great stuff!

Found, Meursault and Panda Su

Roxy Art House

Edinburgh

Those lovely people at Ten Tracks booked a stormer for us upstairs in the main hall at the Roxy. Found have been away to Hamburg, and in the process lost a drummer and picked up a Hofner violin bass.  Nothing like that has ever happened before. Neil from Meursault performed solo, making more than enough noise to fill the cavernous hall, while new-ones-on-me Panda Su got the evening off to a sparkling start.

Toad Session

Toad Hall

Matthew at Song, By Toad and Edinburgh’s number-one groove-machine Found have been trying to hook up for a Toad Session for some time. Eventually,  his people talked to their people, mountains were moved, diaries were cleared, and; on a gorgeously sunny Saturday back in June, Ziggy and Tommy delivered a stripped-down Found sound to Toad Towers. The results were brilliant, make sure you catch up on the complete session over at Song, By Toad.
