Jonnie Common‘s a clever lad. He had the idea to ask a selection of Scotland’s leading musical lights to send him stripped-down performances of some their songs so he could mess about with them, which they did. He then squirrelled himself away, adding layers of bleeps and bloops and rattles and crashes to the artists’ guide tracks, as is his wont; and the result is Deskjob. And, of course, it’s brilliant. These photos are from the launch night in Glasgow, and if you’re quick you can buy a copy here, otherwise you’ll have to pick up a copy next time you’re at one of the bands’ shows.

I’ve called this post Lach‘s Antihoot 2, although it’s not their second show, they’ve done it five nights a week for the whole festival. And it’s not the second time I’ve been along either. It’s just the second time I took photos. Hence the “2″.

Charity Baw

17 07 2010

Featuring King Creosote, Gummi Bako, Ballboy, FOUND, Over The Wall and Panda Su

Roxy Art House, Edinburgh

I was thinking it didn’t seem a year since the last annual Roxy Charity Baw, and of course it isn’t. It’s about eight months. Anyway, horological semantics such as that didn’t prevent us having a ball, indeed a baw, at the hands of King Creosote, Gummi Bako, Ballboy, FOUND, Over The Wall and Panda Su.

Roxy Art House

Edinburgh

Those lovely people at Ten Tracks booked a stormer for us upstairs in the main hall at the Roxy. Found have been away to Hamburg, and in the process lost a drummer and picked up a Hofner violin bass.  Nothing like that has ever happened before. Neil from Meursault performed solo, making more than enough noise to fill the cavernous hall, while new-ones-on-me Panda Su got the evening off to a sparkling start.
